Engagement Photos in the Mountains of Georgetown, Colorado | Kayla and Sam

Kayla and Sam’s engagement photos in the mountains of Georgetown, Colorado have just about everything I love about engagement sessions included in them. From exploring the beauty of Colorado, to having some of their favorite beers to enjoy, and even bringing their pupper along for some photos! I have an article going over 8 tips for making the most of an engagement session in Colorado, and these two basically checked ALL the boxes of the list!!

“Katie was simply the BEST. My fiancé and I were both a little nervous going into our engagement photoshoot, but Katie made us feel so comfortable. Our pictures turned out better than we could have imagined, and she got them back to us so fast. I recommend her to any & everyone!!” -Kayla

Engagement Photos in the Mountains of Colorado

Like many mountain ranges in Colorado, the mountains near Georgetown have a wide variety of features to enjoy, and boy did we take advantage of them for Kayla and Sam’s photos! Their session began at a waterfall tucked in the mountains before we made our way out to a lake with a view of the mountains. It was at this point that their nine year old pup Ziggy came out to join us for a few photos which was SO fun and something I always love for my couples to do!!

Later on in our session we relaxed at an area with some picnic tables where Kayla and Sam could enjoy a drink together. They’re both beer people, so rather than pack champagne that neither of them would drink they brought along some of their favorite beers which made it ALL the more personal! Our session ended in THE most incredible way, with sunset photos on the mountainside while surrounded by moose. Talk about a fairytale ending!!

Experiencing Colorado to the Fullest

Something that Kayla and Sam made clear to me when filling out their questionnaire prior to their session is that they wanted casual photos that really capture who they are as a couple. This is something I’m always recommending my couples do as it makes your photos just that much more special to look back on. For Kayla and Sam this looked like a variety of things. First was ensuring that Ziggy was a part of their session. Next was a barefoot walk through the shore of the lake, then the beers the two shared, and finally being able to be present in the moment with the moose at sunset. All these different aspects combined to help create engagement photos that not only capture the magic of the Colorado mountains, but also the unique love of these two wonderful people!!

The Do’s and Don’ts of Engagement Photos in Colorado

Taking your engagement photos in the mountains of Colorado is quite literally a magical experience, but there is a right and wrong way to go about it! As a Colorado photographer that abides by Leave No Trace, there are some simple rules to follow to ensure that you have a fantastic session while also keeping Colorado’s landscapes beautiful and enjoyable for all! There are 7 principles of Leave No Trace which I cover in detail within this article.

I highly encourage you to read through that to get the full picture, but in short the purpose of Leave No Trace is, as the name suggests, to leave nature as you found it during your session. Kayla and Sam’s engagement session is the perfect example of this as we fully enjoyed our time in the mountains, but anyone who walked through after us would have had no idea that we had ever been there!!
