Between the venue options with those endless mountain and forest views and others with trendy urban backdrops, we really have ANY aesthetic you could possibly want in a day. Couples (and us photographers) are always looking for the best location for couples and group photos that we sometimes forget about the party space itself. Sometimes a venue may have a jaw dropping portrait spot you saw on social media, but the reception space doesn’t have the same feel - or even worse, isn’t functional and accommodating for you and your entourage to spread out comfortably - yikes!

How To Decide if A Reception Space is Right for Your Wedding
I get it, a lot goes into planning a wedding. And having to also think about your reception space in addition to your getting ready, ceremony, vendors, etc. is just another thing to stress about. Here are some quick tips for choosing the best reception space for you:
Capacity: This should be the first thing you check off the list. If the venue’s reception area doesn’t have space for your estimated guest count, it won’t work! We want a space that comfortably fits everyone.
Layout: Sometimes a space CAN technically fit your guests, but you may not have an ideal layout for that amount of people. Think about the function of plated or buffet dinners, space for dancing, etc. This may be a question you’ll need to ask your venue before booking!
Looks: Does the reception area match your overall theme of the day? Photos are taken during speeches and dances. If you are particular about the backdrop of those photos, make sure to double check the aesthetics of the reception area!
Amenities: Some venues include more than others. Whether it’s tables, chairs, linens, catering, bar service, etc. What’s included vs. cost and budget should be factored in.
Restrictions: Are there certain things you won’t be able to do during reception? Or is there a deadline for cleanup, preferred vendors, etc?
