One of my favorite parts of my job as a Colorado wedding photographer is showing off different parts of my state to couples who travel in from all over the country! Livi and Jon came in to Colorado for a fall engagement session, hoping for mountain views and bright autumn colors. After photographing Michaela and Matt here the previous fall, I naturally had to recommend Guanella Pass.

Romantic Engagement Photos at Guanella Pass

There are so many beautiful locations throughout Colorado, but Guanella Pass is one of my favorite spots in Colorado for engagement photos and elopements, especially in the fall. Located near Georgetown and Grant, these scenic mountains reach elevations over 11,000 feet and offer incredible views of the nearby peaks.

Every fall, the mountains glow a bright gold as the aspens change colors. The bright yellows in the trees that cover the mountains paired with the gorgeous sunsets there make for the perfect Colorado backdrop for an engagement session.

‍What to Wear to Your Fall Engagement Photos in Colorado

When it comes to choosing an outfit for your fall engagement photos in Colorado, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

Consider Your Backdrop

You’ll want to do a little bit of research on the area you’re planning to have your photos taken to know what colors the backdrop will have at that time of year. This helps ensure your outfits will complement the scenery rather than blending in with the backdrop.

Comfort is Key

If we are planning to hike to a location or explore multiple spots, it’s important to come prepared! Wear shoes that are comfortable for walking on uneven terrain, and remember that Colorado weather tends to change quickly. Layers are your best friend, especially at higher elevations like Guanella.‍ ‍

Clean Your Ring

One of my favorite items to photograph during your engagement session is your engagement ring, so be sure to clean it before your session!
